Community Savings, a dynamic financial institution providing services throughout Alberta, came about from the growing together of four progressive and successful credit unions.

  • Ukrainian (Calgary) Savings & Credit Union (UCU) amalgamates with Community Credit Union, November 16. UCU was founded May 25, 1960.

  • Pioneer Credit Union (PCU) in High River merged with Community Savings effective November 1. PCU had one branch located in High River with 4,600 members and $65 million in assets. Incorporated as High River Pioneer Savings and Credit Union on March 31, 1941, later changing its name to Pioneer Credit Union on July 25, 1979.

  • In response to feedback from business clients, Commercial Account Packages were introduced.

  • Community Savings commits $1 million in interest free loans to local ag members through its FEAD (Farmers Emergency Aid Distribution) program.

  • Five pilot "Community Councils" started in the communities of: Delburne, Crowsnest Pass, Medicine Hat, Ponoka and Red Deer. The Councils are a conduit for the community members to be a voice/resource to the Board and Management.

  • South Hill branch temporarily relocated to facilitate extensive renovations to increase the size of the branch.

  • Bashaw Cheese Plant announced plant closure. Community Savings responded by facilitating an open house for the employees by bringing together a number of speakers for employees to gather information and ask questions about future employment opportunites. This included business start ups, training and education programs, pension plans and general financial planning
