NEWS RELEASE for July 24, 2007

The High River branch of Community Savings, formerly known as Pioneer Credit Union, will be showcased at the 2007 World Credit Union Conference. On Tuesday, July 31, credit union leaders from over 40 countries will visit the "World’s First All Women’s Credit Union". Visitors will learn about the history and growth of the credit union from the time it opened in 1941, to its merger with Community Savings in 2003, and its current success. True to their roots, local members will be on hand to share the story of how they built this unique credit union from the ground up.

Murray Haubrich, President and CEO, is pleased to "give credit union leaders the opportunity to learn from our experience in High River. The former Pioneer Credit Union is a great example of a small credit union that evolved to become part of the sixth largest credit union in Canada. Many credit union leaders will be able to relate to the Pioneer story, and will hopefully learn some strategies to ensure member needs are always at the forefront of decision making."

The World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) is hosting the annual World Credit Union Conference in Calgary from July 29 to August 1. Participants will take part in various information sessions, as well as visit numerous credit unions and tourist sites throughout Southern Alberta. In addition to providing excellent learning and networking opportunities, this convention focuses on current industry trends, innovations and ideas that participants can take back and integrate into their local credit unions.

"The World Credit Union Conference is a great way to connect with counterparts around the world, and to learn new ways of conducting business" stated Darcy Mykytyshyn, Vice President of Governance and Strategy. "We are looking forward to sharing the history of the High River branch with other credit union leaders." Conference participants will enjoy a guided tour of the High River branch between 5:30 – 7:30pm on July 31. Darcy will be available for interviews between 6:30 – 7:00pm.

Community Credit Union, operating as Community Savings, has 30 locations in 24 Alberta communities geographically distributed from Ponoka south to the US border. Community Savings provides a complete line of banking services, including registered accounts, financing, investments, insurance and commercial banking. With assets approaching $2.5 billion, it is the second largest credit union in Alberta and the sixth largest in Canada. Its head office is located in Red Deer.
