Our Community Investment Guidelines form the basis for decisions
about how we support the community through fundraising, donations,
sponsorships, partnerships or gifts-in-kind.
Community Investment Priorities
If you think your organization would be a good fit for Servus
Credit Union, your mandate must fall within one of our priority
areas. They include:
- Youth: programs and organizations that enhance
the quality of life for youth;
- Education: programs that support the education
of youths and adults;
- Social services and poverty: programs and agencies
that provide a necessary service and have a genuine need
for support
- Local Community Initiatives and Events: local
events that define our towns, cities and regions and celebrate
their history and culture
Types of Community Investments
Servus Credit Union invests in the community in many ways.
We've identified the follow ways that are most commonly
used:
- Donations: a gift-in-kind or cash donation with
little or no recognition;
- Fundraising: direct involvement in raising funds
or goods for not-for-profits;
- Sponsorships: funding in exchange for corporate
profile;
- Partnerships: a mutually beneficial relationship
with a not-for-profit organization;
- Scholarships: money to assist students with
post-secondary education;
- Employee volunteerism: support to employees
as they volunteer in the community;
- Organizational accounts: low-cost banking
plans for not-for-profit organizations.
Eligibility Criteria
A program or event is eligible if it complies with the
following criteria:
- Taking place in one or more communities served by Servus
- Organized by members of that community
- Supported by individuals and businesses in that community
- Objectives within one of the 2010 Community Investment
Areas of Focus
- Not excluded by any of the ineligible criteria listed
below.
Eligibility does not guarantee support. It is only the first
step in determining the value and opportunity of a program
or event. The following are not eligible for Community Investment
funding:
- For profit organizations
- Advocacy or lobbying organizations
- Political projects, programs or organizations
- Contingency funds or deficit campaigns
- Generic, mass mailing solicitations
- Organizations that discriminate on the basis of race,
gender, religion, or lifestyle and
- Support for individuals, including individuals fundraising
independently for a charity (third-party fundraising)
or collecting pledges for a charity organized fundraiser
- Events and programs occurring outside of Alberta, even
if Albertans are involved in organizing and participating
- Unregistered organizations or businesses
